The Bible has a lot to say about prayer.
It also records many demonstration of God’s people devoting themselves to fervent prayer.
In both the Old and New Testaments, the people of God are shown to be connecting with God in a unique way through responding to a burden by falling on their knees before God.
FERVENT PRAYER focuses on the individual’s walk with God and how this precious time can impact a life.
The beginning of the sermon series illustrates some of the fallacies surrounding our perspectives on prayer, some of which have been formed by early misconceptions, some of which were shaped by our influences at the time they were formed.
Now some people see prayer as a job (pulls out hour glass). We have to put in our time and it just seems so slow and demanding. Others see prayer like this (pulls out magic wand). We wave it around, say the magic words and “presto” a miracle happens. But I think most see it like this (pulls out fire extinguisher). It’s for emergencies only. I really don’t know how to use it, but I know I need to have one of these around just in case something goes horribly wrong. But prayer is a LIFESTYLE. It’s a PRIVILEGE. It’s more like this (pulls out cell phone). In this phone I have an address book and it gives me the privilege to connect with some pretty special people. I have a few medical doctor’s numbers in here that I can connect with if I have a medical question just because we’re friends. I have numbers of some pastors from churches with thousands of members and they can’t even give out there numbers to all of their members, but because of our special relationship, I can reach them in moments. There are prayer partners in my contact list that I know will start to pray immediately if I ask. I know some awesome business leaders with sharp minds that I can ask questions if I need them.
Pulling texts and examples from both the Old and New Testaments, FERVENT PRAYER is a sermon that helps people connect with the God.
FERVENT PRAYER drives home the point:
Prayer is an amazing ability to connect with the God who made everything, knows everything, & controls everything.
It also gives practical tips on how individuals should approach their own prayer life, in a way that connects them to God and grows them in their faith.
